French Lick Resort and Casino to Start Schooling Poker, Craps Dealers

November will see the opening of The French Lick Resort and Casino and management official have already offered employment to some 350 people. On Monday, training for the people who will handle the craps, roulette and poker tables will begin, and the lessons will last for 10 to 12 weeks. Meanwhile, training for blackjack dealers will begin in August.

The dealers were chosen from pooled applicants in a June job fair. Another job fair is scheduled for August 18-19 to find another batch of 600 people to work in the facility.

"We couldn't be happier with the turnout we had for our June job fair," said Scott Spurlock, general manager of the French Lick Springs Resort. "With the additional job fair in August, we fully expect to have all positions filled before the resort and casino opening in November."

French Lick Springs resort's hourly wage is pegged at $8 per hour for housekeepers, but casino dealers may earn up to $50,000.

The French Lick Resort and Casino is a $382 million restoration and casino development project that includes both the French Lick Springs Resort and the new French Lick Casino. Both amenities are scheduled to open in November and the West Baden Springs Hotel is expected to open June 2007.

The resort and casino will be housing more than 650 guest rooms and suites, an 84,000-square-foot casino, with 45 holes of golf and two full-service spas.
